What is Autism? Autism is a neurological disorder with no known cause or cure at the present time. It is known that more boys then girls have disorder and the it is usually apparent by the time a child is between the ages of 18 months to 3 years of age. A child must meet the criteria of DSM-IV to be diagnosed with any one of the following.
1. Childhood Disintegrative Disorder is the worst form of Autism. It only affects boys and is a regressive. Boys meet milestones and starting by the age of 2, these children will begin to lose skills.
2. Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) which affects social, Behaviour and Communication in children
3. PDD-NOS Which usually represents a child who displays some "Autistic Tendencies" however does not meet all of the criteria.
